Timpi Guardian Node Setup Part 4 – Installation

We are finally here – it’s time to install your Timpi Guardian Node and help build the world’s first unbiased & decentralised whole web index.

Your Timpi Guardian Node will help store this data and serve it up to the search engine, as well as be used for other use cases via data sets and APIs.

Timpi Discord + Installation Instructions

If you haven’t already you will need to join the Timpi Discord – linked from the Timpi website [bottom left in the footer] or go direct: Timpi Discord.

Inside the discord you will find the channel Instructions where up to date Guardian node installation instructions will be kept.

By going here for the instructions you will not only get the latest versions (the Timpi team will keep those instructions up to date as things change), you can also ensure that any links or repositories are genuine and owned by the Timpi team.

Please use the Guardian channel for any questions or initial help.

If your question can’t be answered there or if you need more specific technical support you can open a support ticket.

Below we’ve included some basic server preparations, docker installation steps and ports to open. If you complete these you can skip to step 2 of the official instructions on Discord.

Server preparations

Some basic good practice before you start your Timpi Guardian node installation [or any Linux activity really] is to update and upgrade your packages – this is like a software update for those new to Linux. Log into your server and type:

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade

Steps to install the Timpi Guardian Node Container

Please go to the Timpi Discord Instructions channel to get the latest Guardian Node installation instructions. We have not duplicated them here so you can be sure to get the latest instructions and container version.

Apex 2 event

Once you’ve completed the installation look out for the latest news + announcements [on discord] regarding Timpi’s Apex 2 event. This will be the latest in a series of Apex events where Timpi stress test the network with all the new nodes running.

Beyond Apex 2

You might be wondering what happens after Apex 2… well the Timpi network keeps on building. The Collector + Guardian nodes will keep operating to build the world’s largest truly decentralised and unbiased whole web index.

There will also be future announcements which will include:

  • Timpi search public release
  • Geo-Core node sales
  • Synaptron node sales
  • Future Apex events
  • Plus more…

What to do with the NTMPI you earn?

Now you’ve got your Guardian up and running you’ll be getting monthly rewards in NTMPI – this is Timpi’s native neutaro token. You have 3 options here:

  • sell it
  • hodl it
  • stake it

Given the potential future value of an unbiased data index I think we would rule out the 1st option… but there’s no point just sitting on the token when you could earn 17% APY to stake it on a neutaro validator.

This helps secure the network AND lets you earn rewards on top of you node rewards.

Please do your own research before staking – check what commission levels validators currently have vs how quickly they can change this. Also check uptime numbers to ensure they have a stable validator which will not get penalised. There is a 21-day un-bonding period – meaning if you choose to remove your stake you have to wait 21 days before the tokens reach your wallet. Re-delegating between validators can be done instantly though.

For optimal security of the network and to maximise decentralisation of the governance it’s best that staked tokens [and therefor voting % share] is shared across ALL validators – so please do consider staking with some of the smaller validators.

We also run a Timpi neutaro validator – if you’re interested in staking with us pop over to our dedicated Timpi staking page to find out more:
